Why We Built This Practice

Six radiologists, health system operators, and healthcare technology veterans left comfortable positions to start Sublimity from scratch in 2026. Here's what physician ownership actually changes — and why starting from zero turned out to be our biggest edge.

Why we built this practice

Sublimity Radiology officially opened its doors. Six of us — radiologists, health system operators, and healthcare technology veterans — left comfortable positions to start a radiology practice from scratch in 2026, in a market where the prevailing winds blow toward consolidation, scale, and outside ownership.

Radiology drifted away from the people it serves

If you work in a hospital, you've probably felt it. The radiologist you used to call by first name got replaced by a rotating queue. Turnaround times crept up. Recruiting a subspecialist to read your advanced imaging became someone else's problem, handled by someone you've never met, in a city you've never visited. When something went wrong, the person on the phone could apologize but couldn't fix it.

None of this happened because radiologists stopped caring. It happened because, in much of the industry, the people reading the studies stopped owning the practice. When ownership and clinical work separate, the incentives separate too. Service becomes a cost center. Turnaround becomes a contract metric to be managed rather than a promise to a colleague. The reading room and the medical staff drift apart.

We believe the fix isn't a better SLA. It's a better ownership model.

What physician ownership actually changes

Sublimity is physician-led and physician-owned. That's not a branding line — it's the operating system of the practice.

When the radiologists interpreting your studies are also the owners of the business, a few things happen naturally. Quality stops being a compliance exercise, because our names and our equity are on every read. Service recovery gets fast, because the person who can fix the problem is the person in the conversation. And long-term thinking wins, because nobody is optimizing for an exit at your expense.

We also believe ownership attracts the radiologists hospitals actually want. The best subspecialists have options. They choose practices where they have a culture, a voice, a stake, and colleagues they respect. Building that kind of practice is how we deliver on the promises everyone else puts in their sales decks.

Starting in 2026 is an advantage, not a handicap

Here's the part that surprised even us: building from zero turned out to be our biggest edge.

Legacy practices carry decades of accumulated infrastructure — on-premise systems that are too difficult to change from vendors who won't adapt, brittle integrations, workflows designed around constraints that no longer exist. We got to skip all of those constraints. Sublimity launched cloud-first, which means our radiologists can provide coverage flexibly, our hospital onboarding is measured in weeks rather than quarters, and our operations don't depend on legacy infrastructure.

The same is true for AI. We didn't have to bolt algorithms onto an old workflow; we designed the workflow around a simple principle: AI should make our radiologist's day more effective. Radiologists can be faster, more consistent, and more focused on the cases that need them most — and a physician makes the final call, every time. We're enthusiastic about the technology and clear-eyed about its limits, and being physician-owned means those deployment decisions are made by the people accountable for the reads.

What we're promising

To the hospitals, health systems, and imaging providers we serve, our commitments are straightforward:

You'll know your radiologists, and they'll know your medical staff. You'll get subspecialty-quality interpretations with turnaround you can build clinical operations around. You'll get transparent metrics and a direct line to physician leadership — not an account manager reading from a script written by PE priorities. And you'll get a partner whose incentives point the same direction as yours, because we own what we build.

We named the practice Sublimity on purpose. It's a different and ambitious word, and we mean it as a standard to be held to, not a claim we've already earned. We intend to earn it one hospital, one medical staff, and one study at a time.

We're glad to be underway. If you want to talk about what a physician-owned radiology partner could look like for your facility, we'd love to hear from you.
